Bagasao Children’s Prayer Club: Greece

From the children:

Every week we learn about a different culture or people group needing prayer. We study their situation and pray for them throughout the week.

Please join us in prayer for the Greece.

The country:

Greece is a very old country that has a strong influence on the philosophies and culture of much of the world, including America. The first Olympics were held in Greece in 1896 and again in 2004.

Their faith:

Morning Star

Morning Star

Paul was the first to preach Christianity to the Greeks because God told him to (Acts 16-18). Greeks are mostly Orthodox Christians. Many rarely go to church and are Christian in name and tradition only. Orthodox Christian worship services are symbolic and use icons and saints.

Evangelicals don’t use icons and they preach that Christ is our friend and is with us always. Evangelicals preach that we don’t need a statue of saints, candles, or icons to reach God. Many Evangelicals are put in prison and persecuted for their faith, because the Orthodox church does not want them preaching.

The Morning Star is a boat that carries teams of evangelists to islands around Greece to preach. Some of the islanders are receptive, but others try to hinder their efforts.

Please pray:

Hannah prays that the Greek Christians show God’s love to all the non-Christians and teach them about him, and that God will keep the Morning Star and the people on it safe. Marissa prays that the Christians will have the courage to tell the non Christians about Jesus. Elisabeth prays that the Greek Christian churches will get stronger. Emily prays that the Greek Christians will tell the non-Christians about Jesus.

  • learn more about the organization that runs the Morning Star, Hellenic Ministries.
  • read a photo guide written by a second grader who journeys annually to Greece with her family, some being native Greeks. Very interesting from a young tourist’s perspective. It also links to the adult version by her father.

Thank you,

Hannah, Marissa, Elisabeth, Emily, and Elijah Bagasao

I Timothy 2: 1, 3: I urge then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for everyone. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
