Bagasao Children’s Prayer Club: Djiboutians
From the Bagasao children:
Every week we learn about a different country or a group of people needing prayer. We study their situation and then pray for them throughout the week.
Please join us in prayer for the Djiboutians.
Djibouti is a very small country, 900,000 square miles. It is located in eastern Africa between Ethiopia and Somalia. Because the French controlled the country until 1977, the Djiboutians speak French and Arabic. It is very hot in Djibouti, and it hardly ever rains. That causes drought so food doesn’t grow. Most of the people are poor and hungry. They try to forget their problems by chewing on khan leaves. Khan is a leaf that people use as a drug to make themselves dreamy and forget about their problems. It makes them not feel hungry.
Most of the Djiboutians are Muslims. There are some Christians, but the population of Christians is very low. There are missionaries and some Christian refugees from Ethiopia that sometimes pray all night that God will open the door to the hearts of the Djibouti. When a Muslim switches to Christianity, the convert is persecuted. Christians are not allowed to preach to Muslims.
Please pray that God will send more rain and give them more food. Pray that the Djiboutians will bring all their troubles to Christ instead of chewing khan leaves to forget their troubles. Pray that the Ethiopian Christians, missionaries, and missionary’s children teach the Djiboutians about Jesus, and that their hearts are open to hear about Him.
